Kevin Ahrens LCPC, CPPA
Chief Operation Officer
Born and raised in rural Woodstock, just south of the Illinois-Wisconsin border, Kevin Ahrens joined the Hartgrove staff in 2013. Prior to taking this position, he worked with a community mental health agency for 13 years, which gave him great opportunities for serving those experiencing mental health issues. In that earlier role, Ahrens was a part of a system that provided counseling, psychiatric services, skill development, housing and rehabilitative services. He also worked in the private practice setting, specializing in family and couples counseling as well as working with those who had experienced trauma.
Ahrens holds a master’s degree in counseling from Northern Illinois University, an area of study that he found to be perfectly congruent with his personality, since he enjoyed learning about behaviors and the reasons for those behaviors. He is passionate about the work at Hartgrove because the focus is always on the patient and their families. The ability to creatively develop new programs and new ways of working with others to meet the needs of the community and those we serve keeps him motivated every day.
Ahrens is married, and he and his wife, Jesy, have three children, two dogs, one fish and a turtle. When not working, he enjoys working around the house, completing woodworking projects and, of course, spending time with his family.
